O is for Oh Wow! I'm a big girl now!

I did it. After 23 years of waiting, I pierced my ears. (I actually pierced them last summer but let them close up but this time it's for real!) The only bad part is that I have to keep these tacky earrings in for 6 weeks. Next stop....highlights in my hair.

So, why do guys always call me by my last name? It's been that way since grade school. I guess I'm just super cool like that.

N is for Noah's Ark

Maybe I just hallucinated, but I think I saw Noah's ark floating by the window today.

M is for M&Ms

Yesterday as I was diligently working in the lab, a craving for peanut M&M's came over me. I go to my desk "drawer" (for lack of a better word) and grab a couple of quarters and begin the trek to the 3rd floor vending machine. There, shining like a beacon in the night, were the peanut M&Ms at the top of the machine. My mouth began to water as I put the quarters in the slot. I heard the first one go where it was supposed to. The second quarter wasn't so lucky, oh, no. It fell into the coin tray at the bottom of the machine. I grabbed it and tried again. Again, it fell into the coin tray. This happend about 5 times until it finally went in. Rejoicing on the inside, I quickly entered the number and letter indicating the peanut M&M's. Then, it happend. They got stuck!! The bag teasingly leaned out of its spot and came to rest against the glass. NOOOO!!! I screamed (on the inside, of course). I proceeded to shake the machine. Suddenly I found myself in my bed in a cold sweat. Honestly, people, WHO DREAMS ABOUT VENDING MACHINES?!?!?!?!?

L is for my Lack of self control

The people in my lab like to eat way too much. For you food-lovers out there (myself included) be aware that it rubs off on those around you. It does, it really does! Last week, there was enough chocolate in the office to feed a small country. Chocolate cake, chocolate lava brownies, chocolate bars, hershey kisses, and the list goes on. The plethora of chocolate could be directly related to the fact that my lab is 80% female. I did OK resisting the chocolate overload. Today is another story. Chips. Tortilla chips, to be exact. Tostitos tortilla chips, to be more exact. The bad part is that they're stale! Does that bother me? Nope. The bag sits on the microwave, which I have to pass every time I leave the office. It speaks to me every time I walk by begging me to eat them. And I do. Do I enjoy stale chips? Not at all. The source behind the food is never known. It's as if some strange food fairy visits overnight and leaves yummy eatibles (sp?) on the microwave.

I'm learning to use a new piece of equipment today. I'll be running a GPC (gas phase chromatography) to test the purity of my PEG-LGPA-PEG. Oh the joy.

K is for Komputer!!! (is that spelled right?)

WAHOO!!! Everyone rejoice with me. Here we go. One. Two. Three. WAHOO!!!
I got my new komputer today and it is amazing. I never thought a computer could actually be FUN to use. Well, I thought wrong. I'm tempted to just stay up here all night and play around with it rather than going home to watch the Astros. Yeah, I know what you're thinking. I'm a nerd. Yeah, well.......so? You're just jealous. Or I'm just a nerd.
Here is what I've been doing today while making major headway in the world of science.

J is for Joy, Jonathan, and i Just want to watch the astros

I just said "thanks" to someone I opened a door for. Awkward.

As I posted earlier, my trusty old Dell laptop that lasted me all 4 years at LSU and one semester here at Rice has finally gone kaput. I was somewhat sad, yet in my heart I was rejoicing because it was only an excuse to buy myself a new one! I have been patiently awaiting my new Apple PowerBook G4 that I ordered last week. I got an email today informing that Apple has come out with a new dual core processor version of the iBook for the same price as the PowerBook G4 that I had ordered and that since they had not yet shipped the PowerBook, I could change my order! You better believe I jumped on that. Oh the Joy!

2.0GHz intel core duo, 13 inch widescreen display, 120GB hard drive, 1.08 inches thin. I really wanted the black one which looks pretty flippin' sweet, but they wanted to charge me $200 extra just for the color!

Forget that. A can of black spray paint costs $5.

For the past few months, I've had the privilege to get to know an awesome guy. Seriously, he is amazing. Good-lookin' and lots of fun. I'm learning to look past the fact that he is BOTH a UT fan AND a Texas Rangers fan. :)

Some of my friends want me to go out with them tonight for karaoke. I cant sing. I dont like hearing drunk people sing. I really just want to stay home and watch the Astros lose to the Giants again. Why will they lose tonight? I'm glad you asked. Wandy Rodriguez will be as freaked out about pitching to Bonds(*) as Taylor Bucholz was last night. yippee.

Well, friends, there's my new blog post. I hope it lived up to your expectations!

The story of my life

I is for I heart my friends!

Seriously, I have the best friends ever. I was so lonely when i first moved to Houston. My BIOE grad class at Rice is predominantly guys, which is cool. I like guys, they're fun to hang out with. However, I really missed those close sister-like bonds I formed with my girlfriends at LSU. There's something special about girlfriends. To quote my friend Jennifer L,
"I do think women are confusing, especially to ourselves. We create a mystical world that only we live in. At least we understand each other, but we make it hard for others to really relate to us when it comes to meeting our needs."
That is so true and i couldnt have put it better myself. We are able to understand each other and meet each others' needs. We can be silly together and act like we're 14, but we can also open our souls to each other. I have made some great girlfriends here in Houston, and I hope that our friendships progress to that unbreakable bond.
