A is for Applesauce and Amino Acids

It's amazing how various smells and tastes can bring one back to events in his/her past. While eating applesauce a few minutes ago, I experienced a time warp back to being 3 years old. Strange....

I would also like everyone to know that I have finally successfully (there's a lot of double letters in that word) made the peptide I need for my experiments!!!!! Yay!!! Now I can start contributing to the world of science. It's about time I'm no longer useless.

I'm tired today

What a crazy weekend. First off, I would like EVERYONE to know that LSU beat Texas A&M this weekend 58-57 with a buzzer beater 3-point shot. It was FANTASTIC. Just in case anyone missed out on that. Now, we play Duke on Thursday (may the Lord have mercy on our souls). LSU going to the Sweet 16!!! GEAUX TIGERS!!!!!!!!
Katie, Rachel, and Jen came to visit me over the weekend. Good times! They went to the rodeo while I watched basketball. (Yes that was fun, and no, I'm not a loser :) ) Friday and Saturday night, we hung out with some of my friends from Rice. That was a lot of fun. I really miss my friends from LSU. I'm going to the Rouge next weekend to tailgate with them for some LSU baseball!!! Jambalaya anyone? I may make some of my world-famous gumbo....
Sunday night, I went to the Hobbit Cafe with Jonathan. Fun times! Good food and good company! :)

Happy Spring!!

Louisiana Saturday Night

I came home for the weekend to visit the parents and the dogs. What great fun! I miss my dog, Sandy. My parents came and stole her from me in January. She's much happier here with them than she was in the bathroom all day with me in Houston. My parents are my bestestest friends in the world. I always love a good visit. Tonight, Dad and I went to the the local crawfish stand and bought some boiled crawfish and shrimp. YUM!!!!!!! It was so spicy, it made my cuticles and lips burn! Thats the way I like it. I have a feeling I wont be eating as much crawfish this spring as I did while I was at LSU. That makes me sad. We're about to make some homemade ice cream. That is quite possibly my favorite dessert in the whole entire wide world we live in. Yes, better than the fried twinkie. Well I've run out of things to say. I'm excited about going to my home church tomorrow and seeing everyone.

Observations from the weekend

1) Staying at home on Friday night to read/watch TV after telling my friends that I'm staying home because I have to study, is actually fun.

2) I have a dirty apartment

3) The fried twinkie is an amazing experience

4) When deciding to spend $5 on a ferris wheel ride or cotton candy, go with the ferris wheel.

5) I want to ride a bull one day (it might be my last day)

6) I have a secret obsession with cowboys

7) My cowboy hat was NOT in impulse buy

8) Izzos Illegal Burrito in Baton Rouge, Louisiana is far superior to both Mission Burrito and Freebirds.

9) I am not the only person in this world that knows the Revelation 21:8 song.

10) I've heard of these people who haven't read Harry Potter. Those people actually exist.

11) Putting one's head in a (dead) alligator's mouth is an interesting experience.

12) I should watch out for rogue pinto beans on the table when eating a burrito.

13) I am convinced that Sunday afternoon naps are Biblical (I have yet to find the reference)

14) Jennifer Langam might be the funniest person alive.

15) I should not think about Jennifer L's comments when eating cornflakes.

16) I need to get back to studying so I dont fail this test.

The Fried Twinkie

It's true, people. Tim was right. The fried twinkie is an amazing experience. There's nothing more I can say about it. No words can do it justice.

I think the term "slut" is used pretty loosely...

Shout-out to a friend

I just want to give a shout-out to my good pal, Gidon Ofek. He is one way cool guy, even though he laughed at me for having a blog. Even though he is from New York City, he has incorporated the wonderful word "y'all" into his vocabulary like it's been there all along. He's always there to go with me to Rice basketball games and he always manages to talk me into going to Two Rows when I call to cancel on the group. His parents live in Italy and he went skiing in the Alps over Christmas break! I'm slightly jealous about that. I think I may be accompanying him to Italy sometime before our time here is over. He's so smart. He's (slightly) late to morning classes. He is now addicted to coffee (which he hates). He makes pancakes better than I do. He likes my gumbo, which reminds me...I still need to teach him how to make it! There's more to write, but it's time for lab cleanup :(
Gidon, if you ever do break down and read my blog....i love ya, man! :) See you in physiology this afternoon!

OK, April's getting mad....gotta go wash some dishes.

Joy

I got WAY to excited when someone in our lab proposed that we go out for chicken wings last night. I proceeded to jump up and down and I ended up hitting the desk. Now I have a massive bruise on my thigh. Awesome. (we ended up not going for chicken wings. I ate tuna helper instead.)

On another note, God answers prayer. Even when He does not give me what I ask, I always end up realizing in the future that He knows best. The fact that God knows best and will "work everything for the good for those who love Him" is something I've always known in my mind. Not until recently have I truly known that in my heart. He did do something I begged of Him, however, and I want to jump up and down for joy (hopefully not bruising the leg this time). God is amazing. Only He can be credited with the changes that can come about in someone's heart, soul, and life.
